On the north-western edge of Sydney’s business district, you’ll find Barangaroo, right in the middle of Darling Harbour and The Rocks. Not only does Barangaroo give you one of the best city locations, but beautiful parklands and waterfront promenades also surround it. Barangaroo is named after a powerful Cammeraygal woman who lived in the area at the time of early colonial settlement. She was a key figure in local Aboriginal culture and community and remains so today.
Barangaroo has changed dramatically over the past few years; it used to be a disused container terminal before it undertook an ambitious renewal project and has now transformed into one of Sydney’s most popular suburbs. Barangaroo has something for everyone – marvellous dining options, great boutique shopping and generous parklands with breathtaking views over the harbour all in one place. Pretty cool, right? Start Your Day at Brix & Beans Coffee House
For those who enjoy a bit of caffeine in the early morning, head to Brix & Beans Coffee House. This quirky little coffee shop is located next to the harbour inside one of the many beautiful historical buildings in the area. The coffee beans are from The Grounds of Alexandria, known for being amongst the best, if not the best, coffee roasters in Sydney. The staff is incredibly welcoming and always makes sure you leave with a smile. This is a true little gem just around the corner from our Barangaroo property.
Discover Barangaroo Reserve
Head out to Sydney’s newest harbour foreshore park – Barangaroo Reserve. Going from being one of the city’s oldest industrial sites, the area now holds a spectacular, six-hectare headland open space of parkland. Perfect for a walk or a workout with fantastic harbour views. There’s even a playground for the small ones and an outdoor barbecue perfect for a picnic. The reserve is also rich in Aboriginal and cultural history and remains an area of great significance for Australians across all cultures.
Try a Different Breakfast at Devon Cafe
There have been few bigger influences on Sydney’s breakfast and brunch scene than Devon Cafe. Located in the buzzing heart of Barangaroo, the cafe serves an exciting Asian fusion twist to traditional Australian breakfast. This is not your average cafe, and you can make sure to witness some true creativity, such as their Sakuma’s (miso marinated king salmon, eel croquette, 63′ egg, mayo and furikake) and the Omurice (garlic tomato koshihikari rice, scrambled egg and mushroom demi-glace). Yuuuuum.
Escape the City on the Wulugul Walk
Take the time to explore the coastal walk around Barangaroo Reserve – the Wulugul walk. For a long time, it’s not been possible to walk around the Sydney Harbour foreshore between Walsh Bay and Cockle Bay. However, this stunning walk is now open to the public via a picturesque new promenade perfect for walking, running or cycling. For those who want to enjoy a longer walk, you can start at the bottom of the Wulugul walk and continue along the coast through the harbour, the Opera House, the Botanical Gardens and all the way to Woolloomooloo. This is about a 90-minute walk through Sydney’s maritime and social history with some of the finest ocean views in the world – highly recommended!
Try Modern Turkish Food at Anason
The Southern end of Barangaroo offers plenty of waterfront world-class restaurants, and Anason is one of them. This modern Turkish restaurant and mezbar is inspired by the food of Istanbul, created by the award-winning chef Somer Sivrioglu. You won’t see any pides or kebabs here; the menu consists of fresh takes on Middle Eastern classics. The interior is certainly photo-worthy, reflecting the modern side of Turkey, with the typical Bosphorus Blue being prominent all around the restaurant. Don’t forget to pair your dishes with their selection of interesting Turkish alcoholic beverages. Beautifully presented food with combinations that are simply heaven on earth; this is an absolute must-try!
Have a Beer at Sydney’s Oldest Pub Brewery
Explore Sydney’s oldest hotel bar The Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel, just moments from our Barangaroo property. The historic building boasts sandstone walls and timber floors, and its brewery is famous worldwide for its natural ales. Brewed with only malt, hops, yeast and water (no added sugars, preservatives or additives), ensuring 100% natural beer. Don’t be fooled by the old impression; the pub has certainly aged with style. With a wide selection of excellent drinks & food and an incredible atmosphere, this is probably amongst the best pubs in Australia.
Have Dinner at Henry Deane in Hotel Palisade
Located just across the road from our Barangaroo property is Hotel Palisade, with the cocktail bar and restaurant Henry Deane on the 4th and 5th floor. We recommend getting here just before sunset for some impressive harbour views in every direction. Great vibes, fantastic cocktails and delicious food. Come for the drinks and food, and stay for the breathtaking views.
Watch a Show at the Roslyn Packer Theatre
Last but not least, definitely check out this beautiful and intimate theatre – Roslyn Packer Theatre is the largest of Sydney Theatre Company’s venues, situated inside an industrial, heritage-listed building that’s been converted into beautiful modern art spaces. The theatre hosts productions from its resident drama and dance companies, Sydney Theatre Company and Sydney Dance Company, as well as theatre, dance, comedy and live music from popular artists and companies from Australia and around the world.
